Tips for the Holidays

Buy Hostess Gifts all at Once

We often go to parties during the holidays and it’s always considerate to bring a hostess gift.  But instead of going out to shop before each party, buying all your hostess gifts for the holiday season makes sense.  You can even pick a theme for each year that would please everyone—for example, ornaments, and candles are items everyone would appreciate along with some gourmet chocolates.   Choosing your hostess gifts all at once at your favorite store will save you money on fuel, hours of time you would otherwise spend driving back and forth to the store, and if you shop online, you can often get discounts and free shipping for larger orders.

Take Advantage of After Holiday Sales and Buy Decorations for Next Year

Economize by buying some decorations you feel you absolutely must have during this year’s holiday season, but plan on buying other items in January—when they are usually 50% off.

Use Ribbon to Dress up Your Home

Festive holiday ribbons are a beautiful, easy and inexpensive way to dress up all sorts of things during the holidays.  They’re great for decorating dessert platters and cupolas, hurricane lamps, candles, banisters, consoles and mantles, hanging indoor and outdoor wreaths, buffet tables and more.

Make a Wish List for the Refrigerator

A fun family tradition is to make a Wish List for everyone to fill out before the holidays—which gives you a good idea of what everyone wants.  Then you can pick and choose which presents will come from the parents and which ones miraculously appear under the tree from Santa.
