Homework Assignments It certainly helps children perform their best at
school if at home they have a designated space where they are used to doing
homework every day—a quiet area free from distractions like television or
computer and electronic games.
Teachers can help by providing a folder with each inside pocket
labeled “To Do” and “Finished” for homework to be taken to and from
school. Once a child is home, he or
she can remove all graded assignments and place them by category in folders
on their desk labeled Math, Language
Arts and Social Studies. The additional folder—To Study & Projects—is for assignments due at a later date as
well as print outs of information to review from time to time (if a child has
a large cork board these papers can also be placed up on a wall). While some children may have an organizer
in which they write their homework assignments, the Homework folder is for all printed homework assignments that some
teachers choose to provide—good to keep on hand as reference. The additional benefit of organizing homework this
way is that parents can simply take their children’s work to parent-teacher
